In 1999, Cates relocated to his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee, to develop the Soulsville Revitalization Project (soulsvillefoundation.org) as its Project Developer and to serve as its initial Board Chairman. The $30 Million nonprofit, public/private project includes the Stax Museum of American Soul Music (staxmuseum.com), The Soulsville Charter School (soulsvillecharterschool.org), and The Stax Music Academy (www.staxmusicacademy.org). The state of the art, six acre campus continues to serve as an anchor for what is now one of the largest inner city revitalization projects in the country.
In the summer of 2000, Cates began working with a team of business and civic leaders to attract the Vancouver Grizzlies National Basketball Association franchise to Memphis, Tennessee, and to get public support for the team’s arena (FedExForum). The “Pursuit Team” was successful in its efforts, and Cates became a member of the original local ownership group.
Cates began his real estate career in Dallas, Texas, where he worked as an Analyst at Trammell Crow Company Capital Markets Group and later an Associate for Crow Investment Trust (now called Crow Family Holdings), the Trammell Crow Family’s ownership and asset management vehicle also based in Dallas. At Crow, he was a member of a team responsible for partnership and loan workouts, office and industrial acquisitions, asset management, and commercial development.
A native Memphian, Cates earned a Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) degree at the University of Texas at Austin and was inducted into the Order of Omega National Honor Society and the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society. In 2001, he was inducted into Lambda Alpha International, an honorary land economics society. In 2009, he was elected to the Board of Directors of Pioneer Natural Resources (NYSE:PXD) and re-elected to a second term in 2012. Pioneer was the best performing publicly traded energy company from 2009 – 2013. He also serves on the board of the Myelin Repair Foundation (myelinrepair.org), a leading medical research organization based in Saratoga, California. He and his wife Allison (former Audit Manager at Price Waterhouse) have very active twin children.
Yale Spina, Chief Operating Officer
Yale oversees all operations for RVC Outdoor Destinations. He has been in the hospitality industry since retiring from full-time professional ski jumping in 1990 and has served in various hospitality roles for Harrah’s, Hilton, and Caesar’s, including Director of Hotel Operations for Caesar’s Tahoe....read more
Yale was also responsible for Harrah’s Post Hurricane Katrina Relief Operations. Before joining RVC, he served as Vice President of Operations responsible for all Harrah’s hotel properties in Tunica. Yale owns an Airstream that he refurbished and named Sylvia.
Gladys McGowan, Administration & Research
Gladys is the Office Manager and Research Analyst for RVC Outdoor Destinations. Gladys graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a degree in Business Administration. Alex Embry, Vice President of Marketing
Alex leads the marketing department for RVC Outdoor Destinations. After graduating from the University of Memphis with a degree in Marketing Management, Alex became a member of the RVC Team. Alex oversees all aspects of advertising, marketing research, branding, marketing strategy and growth of the company’s online presence....read more

Matt Uselton, Vice President of Acquisitions
Matt leads the acquisition effort for RVC Outdoor Destinations. Upon graduating from the University of Memphis with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance, he was an analyst for commercial real estate development with Loeb Properties and an Investment Banking Analyst intern in Public Finance at Morgan Keegan, now Raymond James. Matt is active in all aspects of site selection, market analysis, asset management and purchase as well as development strategy for RVC Outdoor Destinations.
Outside of the commercial real estate world, Matt is a professional musician with a 10-year career as a live and studio guitarist along with years of teaching, song-writing and studio production.
Kate King, General Manager of Mountain Springs Cabins
Kate King came to Asheville, NC, in 1996 by way of Nashville, TN. She left behind a past in library science & interior design to learn the hospitality business working for her family at their cabin retreat in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The retreat is located on land that has belonged to the women of her family since before the Civil War....read more
In 1983, the family dairy farm was transformed into a cabin retreat. After a year of learning how to become a property manager, she became the general manager in 1997. Later, she purchased the business and continued to manage the property for the next 5 years. In May 2010, Kate chose to sell Mountain Springs to RVC and become a member of the team.
She is involved with the community through her relationship with the local Chamber of Commerce, her work with the Zoning & Planning Committee, and her associations with several environmental groups. For Kate, this is a way to help preserve and protect her mountain community.
Jeff Love, Director of Operations
Jeff Love was born and raised in San Diego, CA and has a wife and 5 boys. He served in the United States Navy for 5 years as a weapons technician and comes to us from Best Buy after 10 years of service. He has extensive experience in management ranging from Account management to retail management. Amanda Huckaby, General Manager of Pine Mountain
Amanda Huckaby has been involved in the camping industry for many years. She started out as a little girl in Iowa taking weekend camping trips and making many memories each trip she took. After living 24 years in her home state of Iowa, she moved to Georgia to pursue newer adventures in her personal life and career. First working the Trading Post Camp Store and Amanda then transitioned into payroll, inventory and other office duties. She started with Pine Mountain RV Resort in 2012 as a housekeeper, moved into a front desk position, then Assistant General Manager, and has now reached her goal as General Manager. Amanda is a wife and mother of 2 children, whom she holds dear to her heart. They have given her much support in her drive to move up and bring forth more adventures and memories for the family.
Jacob Cudnohoski, General Manager of Live Oak Landing
Jacob Cudnohoski has always had an interest in the great outdoors. He is fortunate to have spent much of his childhood growing up living in the mountains and at the beach. Nancy Beck, General Manager of Catherine’s Landing
A native of Kenosha, WI, Nancy Beck began her working career in the US Army where she spent 13 years principally as a Captain in the Finance Corps. It was in the Army where she developed her desire to travel living in Germany and 4 Eastern states. She returned to Wisconsin and spent 10 years as manager of operations for a retail garden center and next a commercial food equipment manufacturer. The love of working outside has always been a passion so as retirement started coming closer into view she started looking at the RVing world as a fulltime possibility. Nancy moved to St. Louis and managed a 9 hole golf course for a year while preparing to go full time rving. Her first position as a full time rver was Assistant General Manager of Raccoon Mountain Caverns & Campground in Chattanooga. Nancy enjoys hiking, biking, sitting outside and chatting with fellow rvers, and visiting nature preserves and historic sites.
Samantha Kozak, General Manager of Lake Raystown Resort
Samantha Patt Kozak is Co-Owner/Operator of Lake Raystown Resort, Lodge & Conference Center in Entriken, Pennsylvania. Samantha holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lehigh University and received her MBA in Operations Management from Drexel University. Samantha is a 2005 graduate of The National School of RV Park & Campground Management and has served as both an Instructor and on the Board of Regents for the school since 2006. She has served on the Board of Directors and as the Chair of Club Social Activities for the Huntingdon County Rotary Club, the Board of Directors and a Member of the Industrial Development Committee of Huntingdon County Business & Industry, is a Member of Pennsylvania Campground Owner’s Association, and has been a a member of ARVC 20 Group 2 since 2004.
Betsy Lauren, General Manager of Garden of the Gods RV Resort
Betsy Lauren, joins the RVC family as Garden of the Gods RV Resort’s new Assistant Manager. Born and raised in “The City” of San Francisco, the cultural diversity strongly influenced her wanderlust to travel. After visiting Hawaii she remained, fulfilling a dream of living the island lifestyle. The next twenty-five years, Betsy gained experience in the visitor-hospitality industry where she quickly progressed from a contract typist to the Director of Sales Assistant for a time-share resort on Kauai....read more
Betsy also headed-up the construction office rebuilding Lawai Beach Resort after Hurricane Iniki devastated the island in 1992. She quips that the hurricane brought her husband, Marcus and her together. Returning to the mainland, the last six years have been full time RV’ing with her furry and feathered family. Betsy brings first-hand experience of the RV lifestyle with an enthusiastic desire to make GOG one of RVC’s premier resorts.
Amy Kilgore, General Manager of Carrabelle Beach RV Resort
Amy Kilgore, new General Manager in Training, is a Carrabelle native. She returned home to be near her family in in 2012, after growing up in the Tampa area. In her free time, Amy enjoys spending quality time with her family; including, her grandfather who was stationed at Camp Gordon Johnston in Carrabelle during WWII. Amy was previously the office manager at our sister property, Carrabelle Boat Club. Her background is in office management and customer service. After years as a bus driver, then transportation supervisor, she found her true calling; the camping industry. Lace and her husband Bryan have been working and managing campground over the last 10 years, and managing the Yosemite RV Resort since July of 2015. In her spare time, she loves nature photography, fishing, exploring new places and recently trying her hand a making homemade sushi.
Craig Newton, General Manager of Medina Highpoint Resort
