Nothing says summer quite like cooking over an open fire (Cool campfire cookware makes this really fun too). Unfortunately cooking over a campfire is not always the easiest to do. Many people opt to take the easy route and move their dinner preparations into their RVs. While this is perfectly understandable, it does take a bit of the fun away from camping. For this reason, we much prefer sticking to traditional camping cooking methods whenever possible.

Fortunately, there are things you can do to make cooking over an open flame a bit easier. For instance, having the best cooking tools on hand for the job will simplify your task tremendously, allowing you to fully enjoy the experience.

Not sure what tools you should have on hand? We recommend investing in the following campfire cookware that makes outdoor cooking and absolute cinch!

Pie Iron

Sandwiches are a fine meal, especially if you just need something to eat in a hurry. That said, this simple food is made many times better when you heat it up. For this reason, we highly recommend investing in a campfire pie iron. Not only is this the perfect tool for creating warm sandwiches, it also works well for creating campfire pies as well as a number of other delicious treats and eats.

Telescoping Roasting Sticks

Camping wouldn’t be camping without s’mores and hot dogs. For this reason, a set of roasting sticks is a must. Which sticks should you buy? Well, this telescoping style certainly is handy. The sticks are sturdy, have plenty of length, and fold up nicely at the end of the night to be stored until next time.

Percolator – must-have campfire cookware!

In our opinion, anyone who makes it through a day without coffee is a saint. Because coffee is so crucial, it is highly important that you find a way to prepare it. A percolator is a perfect and perfectly simple tool for making delicious coffee around the fire just like the cowboys once did.

Cast Iron Skillet – another must-have campfire cookware!

Every camper needs a well-seasoned cast-iron skillet. This is the perfect pan for those who will be cooking over a fire and can be used to make everything from bacon and eggs to steak and fried potatoes. While it may take a while to get your skillet seasoned just the way you like it, it is well worth the effort in the end.

Dutch Oven

Dutch ovens are some of the coolest cooking gadgets around. They are incredibly versatile and make delicious food every single time they’re used. Best of all, dutch ovens are made to be used in the coals of a campfire. This makes the dutch oven the ideal tool for campers looking to create meals outdoors.

Camp Grill

Another piece of campfire cookware that is nearly as versatile as the dutch oven is the camp grill. This well-constructed metal grate is set up over an open flame and can be used to grill any number of items. It can also be used as a cooking surface when using a cast-iron skillet or as a base for a dutch oven to stand on should you wish to keep it out of the fire itself.

Campfire Popcorn Popper

Do you want to enjoy a bit of popcorn while sharing ghost stories around the fire? No problem! This popcorn popper allows you to make popcorn over the fire. Not only that, but the handle is long enough that you won’t burn our fingers while you’re at it. Don’t forget the salt and butter!

Cast Iron Waffle Maker

In the minds of most, waffles aren’t exactly considered camping food. After all, not many people want to lug a heavy waffle iron into the woods, and electric waffle makers are of no use when electric outlets aren’t handy. Luckily, somebody changed all of that when they created this nifty cast iron waffle maker on a handle. This super cool gadget allows you to make waffles over a fire in minutes. How cool is that?

Campfire Tripod – Essential campfire cookware

Whether you want to make soup or stew or simply wish for a way to hang your dutch oven rather than leave it sitting in coals, a campfire tripod is just what you need. Set it up in the morning to get the soup started, and you’ll have an amazing meal to fill your belly after a busy day once dinner time rolls around.

With these 9 must-have pieces of campfire cookware, you’ll be well on your way to camping chef mastery. Maybe you won’t even mind trading your RV kitchen for the great outdoors. If you need more help getting started, here are a few of our favorite campfire recipes.
