As the summer draws to a close, enjoy time outside with friends and family with some simple campfire breakfast ideas that everyone will love. They require little prep time, only a bit of cleaning, and no sacrificed time in the great outdoors.

1. Campfire Breakfast Burger

Start the holiday off the right way with an American favorite.

What you need:

  • Biscuit mix (you can pre-make this at home)
  • Drop Biscuit Pan
  • Eggs
  • Sausage patties
  • Skillet

Directions:

  1. While the sausage is cooking in the skillet, pour the pre-made biscuit mix into the drop biscuit pan.
  2. When the biscuits are done, remove them from the pan and cook the eggs in the drop biscuit pan. (this makes them the perfect size for the biscuits and makes the whole sandwich have a smokey campfire flavor)
  3. Assemble your sandwiches and enjoy!

2. Strawberry and Nutella “Campfire Crepe”

If you are looking for a sweet and simple breakfast, try this delicious alternative to traditional crepes!

What you need:

  • Pie Iron
  • White Bread
  • Nutella
  • Fresh Strawberries
  • Butter

Directions:

  1. Butter one side of the pie iron (or put the butter directly on the bread).
  2. Spread Nutella on the bread; cover with sliced strawberries.
  3. Cover with the second piece of bread (buttered).
  4. Cook over the campfire until warm and crisp; flip pie iron over and continue cooking the second side.

3. Campfire Cinnamon Rolls

Make savory cinnamon rolls outdoors without the risk of burning by using orange peels! With little prep or mess, these tasty treats cannot be beaten.

What you need:

  • 1 can of 8 cinnamon rolls
  • 8 oranges
  • Aluminum Foil

Directions:

  1. Hollow out the oranges: cut a 2” circle out of the top and then use a spoon to scoop out the orange.
  2. Put a cinnamon roll in each orange, put the cap back on, and wrap in foil.
  3. Put the foil-wrapped orange into the coals, leave for about 12 minutes, depending on your fire.
  4. Drizzle on icing and enjoy!

4. Campfire Breakfast Burritos

For a more hearty option, try this breakfast burrito recipe that serves 4 to 6. For a spicier morning, add some diced jalapeños!

What you need:

  • Skillet
  • 1 pound of chorizo sausage
  • 2 potatoes, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 orange bell pepper, sliced
  • 8 ounces Cotija cheese, crumbled
  • Salsa
  • 8 to 10 tortillas

Directions:

  1. Crumble sausage and cook for about 10 minutes with the diced potato until the sausage is brown and the potato is soft.
  2. Add bell pepper slices, cooking until soft.
  3. Top with Cotija cheese and set aside, keeping warm.
  4. Warm each tortilla briefly in the skillet and fill with the sausage/veggie mix. Enjoy with the salsa!

5. Campfire Breakfast in a Bag

Try this dish-less and filling campfire breakfast in a bag!

What you need:

  • One paper lunch bag
  • Strips of thick bacon
  • Canned biscuits
  • Eggs
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Line the bottom of the paper bag with bacon, making sure to cover all of the paper and slightly up the sides.
  2. Place two raw biscuits on top of the bacon.
  3. Crack the egg(s) and drop on top.
  4. Add salt and pepper.
  5. Fold the top of the bag over a couple of times.
  6. Put the bag on a grate over the campfire.
  7. Remove from fire when the grease from the bacon is about halfway up the side of the bag.

6. Campfire French Toast

For another sugary breakfast option, try cooking French toast outdoors over a campfire or camp stove! With little prep required, this meal will be ready in no time.

What you need:

  • Bread slices
  • Egg
  • Cinnamon (1/4 teaspoon per 2 slice serving)
  • Powdered sugar
  • Maple syrup

Directions

  1. Mix egg and cinnamon in a bowl and cover bread with mixture.
  2. Place bread in a skillet over the campfire and fry until golden brown.
  3. Top with powdered sugar and maple syrup.

7. Campfire Eggs

You have several easy options for cooking eggs over the campfire. One option is using orange peels like in the above cinnamon roll recipe to cook the eggs, but if you want a more substantial meal, try using a potato!

What you’ll need:

  • Potato
  • Egg
  • Bacon
  • Shredded cheese
  • Butter

Directions:

  1. Slice off a side of each potato lengthwise.
  2. Scoop out most of the inside, leaving a thin layer of potato. (You can save the potato you scooped out for lunch!)
  3. Fill each potato with shredded cheese, an egg, and bits of bacon.
  4. Cook over the campfire and enjoy it!

8. Apricot Hazelnut Oatmeal

One of the quickest campfire breakfast options, this oatmeal is one you can mix up at home and simply add boiling water to a mug or bowl at your campsite.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 packet plain instant oatmeal
  • 1 tablespoon powdered milk
  • 3 dried apricots, chopped
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon flaxseed
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon hazelnuts, chopped

Directions

  1. Before you leave: combine everything in a locking plastic bag or container.
  2. At the campsite: add 2/3 of boiling water to oatmeal and enjoy.

9. Campfire Blueberry Orange Muffins

Who knew you could make so many breakfasts with an orange peel? Here is another easy breakfast option: blueberry muffins cooked in orange peels over the fire (with the added benefit of a bit of orange flavoring).

What you need:

  • Blueberry muffin mix
  • Oranges
  • Aluminum Foil

Directions

  1. Mix up the blueberry muffin mix according to the box directions
  2. Cut the oranges in half; scoop out all the orange flesh.
  3. Fill one half of the orange with blueberry muffin mix; cover the filled half with the empty orange half and wrap in three layers of foil.
  4. Throw the foil-wrapped oranges into the fire and cook about 10 minutes, turning the balls over every minute or so.
  5. Unwrap and eat with a spoon!

10. Cinnamon Sugar Monkey Bread

This campfire treat makes an extremely simple and fun breakfast that the kids will love to make for a sweet breakfast or dessert.

What you need:

  • 2 rolls Pillsbury Biscuits
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 3 tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 stick butter

Directions:

  1. Tear biscuits into quarters
  2. Mix sugar and cinnamon in a plastic bag
  3. Drop each quarter into a bag and shake to coat well
  4. Place in a Dutch oven (You may want to line the oven with foil for easier cleanup).
  5. Melt butter and pour over biscuits
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes
  7. Sprinkle extra sugar over the biscuits, let cool and enjoy!

11. Lumberjack Breakfast

For a very filling breakfast that can be altered to everyone’s preferences, try this lumberjack breakfast in tin foil.

What you need:

  • Sausage or Canadian bacon
  • Frozen hash browns or diced leftover cooked potatoes
  • Eggs
  • Shredded cheese
  • Optional: chopped tomatoes and green onions
  • Aluminum foil
  • Cooking spray
  • Salt and pepper

Directions:

  1. Lay sausages/bacon on a double layer of foil that has been sprayed lightly with cooking spray.
  2. On top of the sausages, add a handful of frozen has browns or diced cooked potatoes, an egg or two, and diced tomato and green onion if you like.
  3. Salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Wrap up packet and place over the fire for 15-20 minutes or until meat is thoroughly cooked.
  5. Open the packet and add shredded cheese; put the packet back over the campfire to melt if desired. Enjoy!

12. Crescent Rolls on a Stick

The kids will love this easy and sweet campfire breakfast that they can cook themselves!

What you need:

  • Cinnamon
  • Sugar
  • Crescent Rolls
  • Roasting Sticks

Directions

  1. Lay the crescent triangle on a plate and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Wrap crescent roll around the roasting stick.
  3. Press the dough together at the end of the stick to keep it together.
  4. Hold it over the campfire until golden brown, rotating to brown all sides. Make sure it stays away from the flames to keep it from burning, but keep it hot at all times so it doesn’t get gooey before it has a chance to firm up.
  5. Remove from the stick with a paper towel and allow it to cool before eating!
